Ka mbaruar studimet në Fakultetin e Mjeksisë në vitin 1994 dhe më pas është specializuar në degën e Psikiatrisë pranë Qendrës Spitalore Universitare “Nënë Tereza” në Tiranë. Ka punuar për Organizatën Botërore të Shëndetësisë, programi i Shëndetit Mendor deri në vitin 2013 si dhe është pedagog i jashtëm pranë Universitetit të New York-ut në Tiranë që prej vitit 2006.

Gjatë viteve të punës në klinikën e psikiatrisë si dhe në rolin e tij në ngritjen e shërbimeve komunitare të shëndetit mendor, merr përvojën dhe njohuritë e mjaftueshme për t’u bindur që psikoterapia është një mjet i fuqishëm dhe i efektshëm që ndihmon personin dhe marrëdhëniet të “shërohen”, rriten dhe fuqizohen.
Që prej vitit 1998 bie në kontakt me Shoqatën Europiane për Psikoterapinë dhe ndikon në fillimin e organizimit dhe përhapjes së kësaj disipline ndërmjet disa profesionistëve të shëndetit mendor në Shqipëri.

Që prej krijimit të Shoqatës Shqipëtare për Psikoterapinë në Mars të vitit 2002 është kryetar i kësaj shoqate deri në Prill 2015.
Është mbajtës i ÇSHP (Çertifikata Shqiptare për Psikoterapinë), ECP (European Certificate for Psychotherapy) http://www.europsyche.org/ecp dhe WCP (World Certificate for Psychotherapy) në modalitetin e Psikoterapisë psikoanalitike/psikodinamike.

He has finished his General Medicine studies in 1994 and later specialized in Psychiatry in University Hospital Center “Mother Theresa” in Tirana. He then worked for the World Health Organization in its mental health program till 2013 and also worked as a par time instructor at the University of New York, Tirana since 2006.

During his clinical experience in the Clinic of Psychiatry and also within his role in implementing community mental health services in Albania, Neli gains enough experience and knowledge to understand that psychotherapy is a strong and effective tool that helps the person to heal, grow and empower.

Already in 1998 he establishes professional contacts with the EAP (European Association for Psychotherapy) and initiates the organization and spreading of psychotherapy among a group of young mental health professionals in Albania.

He becomes the first president of the Albanian Association for Psychotherapy from the date of its foundation in March 2002 and keeps that position till April 20015.
Neli Demi is holder of CSHP (Albanian Certificate of Psychotherapy), ECP (European Certificate of Psychotherapy) http://www.europsyche.org/ecp and WCP (World Certificate of Psychotherapy) and is trained in the psychoanalytic/psychodynamic psychotherapy.
